Keene Daley Whipple Post #799 Ladies Auxiliary News                            March – April  2010

My Dear Sisters,

I had high hopes for an early Spring, but as I write this, a snowstorm is blowing hard with another just behind it! I hope you are staying warm and cozy.

The Auxiliary year is two thirds over and it is hard to think about how the time is flying by. We will soon be setting dates for our 65th Anniversary celebration and for the Auxiliary yard sale. We will need donated items to sell as well as space for storage until the event, and of course, VOLUNTEERS! If you can help at all, please give me a call at 352-4046.

Update on our sponsorship of the group counseling for spouses of veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: The counselor, A.J. Paige, tells me that the participants feel the service has greatly helped them to understand and to cope with their veteran’s PTSD. He is scheduled to speak and answer questions at our March meeting, and I know from experience you will find him an interesting speaker who is passionate about his work!

I sometimes hear from members that they cannot attend meetings because they have young children. Did you know that under our National Bylaws children through the age of four may be present at meetings? Veteran families are our purpose and no member should feel excluded because she has one!

We have a vacancy in the office of Treasurer. Penni Giles is the Treasurer pro tem until the March meeting, at which time we shall elect a permanent Treasurer for the remainder of the 2009-2010 term. If you have an interest in serving in that capacity, please come in and make your intentions known. In the meantime, dues should be sent to the Ladies Auxiliary, attn: Penni Giles at the Post address: 459 Winchester Street, PO Box 24, Keene, NH 03431.

Speaking of dues, if you haven’t paid your 2010 membership dues, you are not a member in good standing at this time. The 2009 card expired on January 1st.  Please send them in ASAP. Remember, our membership numbers directly affect how loudly our voice is heard in Congress when voting on veterans’ issues. Every one counts, and each of you is important. We are currently at 88% paid, leaving only 17 more members left to renew.  As always, strictly confidential financial help is available if your dues are a hardship this year.

On a lighter note, The Post’s annual St. Patrick’s Day meal will be served up by Conrad and Jeanne Perrault, who have cooked some delicious meals for us in recent times! Check the Calendar of Events for details. Take out is available, or come in and enjoy some camaraderie while you dine on a traditional corned beef dinner or Reuben special!

Please call with any ideas, concerns or questions you may have. Thank you for the support you give to the Auxiliary, and thus to our veterans and their families.

                    Gloria Ruff

                    President
